SIGMA RECO 81 LINK – intelligent radar for maximum safety on the road

With the RECO radar, SIGMA is pursuing a clear technological approach: not a rear light with radar, but a radar with integrated rear light. As an experienced manufacturer of bicycle lighting and inventor of the Bike Computer (1982), SIGMA takes a systemic approach to safety – and with RECO consistently focuses on the traffic situation to the rear.
SIGMA’s connective RECO radar rear lights bring a technology to the road that warns cyclists earlier and at the same time makes them clearly visible to traffic behind. It analyzes the space behind, evaluates approaches and communicates relevant hazards in real time. The integrated rear light acts as a visual interface – not as an end in itself, but as part of a holistic safety concept.
The precise radar detects approaching vehicles in a 60° detection range at a distance of up to 140 meters and can detect and process up to eight objects in parallel. The evaluation is speed-based: From an approach speed of over 5 km/h, traffic is recognized as relevant and displayed. Moderate approaches are visually signaled in orange, very fast approaches from approx. 60 km/h clearly in red. Technically, the system is designed for approach speeds of up to 160 km/h and thus creates exceptional safety reserves.
In conjunction with a radar-compatible GPS bike computer, RECO LINK becomes a digital rear-view mirror. Visual and acoustic warnings increase situational awareness and enable an anticipatory, informed riding style – a safety benefit that goes far beyond classic rear lights.
Another core feature of the system is the sensor-based light intelligence. Thanks to an integrated acceleration sensor, the brake light and emergency brake light function works in all light modes – even in RADAR ONLY mode. In the event of abrupt braking, the emergency brake light function is activated: the rear light flashes conspicuously, similar to the familiar emergency brake light in motorized road traffic. These safety-relevant brake light functions are available on all RECO versions, including the StVZO-compliant RECO 80 LINK for Germany.
The system maturity of the RECO 81 LINK is particularly evident on social rides and group rides: In PELOTON mode, the light intensity is specifically reduced to a tolerable level. Following riders are not dazzled or irritated by flashing signals, while visibility for the traffic behind is maintained – without compromising the radar, brake or emergency brake light function.
SIGMA also sets standards in energy management. The runtimes of the six light modes of the RECO 81 LINK are consistently adapted to different usage scenarios:
– HIGH: up to 15 hours
– PELOTON: up to 26 hours
– DAY FLASH: up to 21 hours
– NIGHT FLASH: up to 23 hours
– ECO FLASH: up to 27 hours
– RADAR ONLY: up to 30 hours
This means that the safety-relevant core feature – radar monitoring – remains permanently active even over long distances, during training or on multi-day tours.
As part of a networked system, the RECO 81 LINK integrates seamlessly into the SIGMA LINK ecosystem. Coupling with front lights such as the AURA 100 LINK shifts control and battery status to the front. The ANT+ radar profile enables integration into GPS bike computers and future app-based warning systems.
