Fresh jacket Randonneur
Just as the Frisch Walk jacket is indispensable in the cool to cold seasons, the Frisch Randonneur jacket impresses in the warmer seasons.
Alongside the Frisch Walk jacket (cylclingworld 2024 award), the Frisch “Randonneur” jacket is an attempt to push sportswear back into the pre-plastic age. We all know the advantages, but unfortunately also the disadvantages of petroleum-based textiles and so we are trying to create natural alternatives with at least the same advantages.
Wait, no. We can’t quite manage that. None of our products are 100% waterproof. But we accept that, because we don’t want to have to deal with the obvious disadvantages of artificial materials when it’s not raining all the time. We see genuine breathability and the sustainability of natural materials (in terms of health for people and nature) as a double advantage and relevant for a purchase decision.
For the “Randonneur” jacket, we have tried to create a dynamic, slim fit that is as close to the body as possible. To make this possible without using Lycra or sacrificing comfort, we used a technique that was already used in the Middle Ages to produce elastic tights: Knitting ! Our “Randonneur” gets the extra length that the upper body needs when leaning forward on the bike from a jersey made of 100% virgin wool from Austria, from which the majority of the back section is made. Wool knit is much more dimensionally stable than cotton knit and has the further advantage that if, for example, a rucksack is carried on the back, the wool can cope much better with waterlogging.
However, the Randonneur gets its “face” from a precisely cut ergonomic construction made of Ventile® or formerly Eta Proof®, probably the best cotton poplin suitable for outdoor use (according to the Swiss producers) made of extremely long-fibered and very tightly twisted cotton fibers, which can also be waterproof under certain conditions. In our experience, these conditions do not occur when making outerwear, but …(see above).
Ventile® is permanently available in many beautiful colors, so Randonneur can offer a long production time without compromise. We strive for low plastic design solutions that outlast the moment and remain interesting for many years. This effectively avoids seasonal production surpluses.
We also try to find special solutions when it comes to finishing. To avoid pocket bags dangling around, the front is lined with Italian shirt poplin, which is available in wonderful patterns. The pocket bags are then simply stitched through the outer material and lining. This turns the beautiful lining into a practical pocket bag. All edges are trimmed or edged with a contrasting tape and the usual chain seams are largely replaced.
The cut of the jacket with its details and fit is reminiscent of a motorcycle jacket, but actually has an older ancestor: It is the design of the just-au-corps, the extremely tight-fitting coat worn by the nobility in the 18th century. The fact that the wearers were able to move well despite the tight fit is proven by the many sword duels they had to fight. The early motorcycle jacket manufacturers were probably also inspired by this.
Fresh jacket “Randonneur”, technical
Three-season cycling jacket for men and women made from the best natural materials available. Cotton poplin from Ventile®/Eta Proof®, zippers from RiRi, both from Switzerland, 100% virgin wool jersey from Austria.
Slim-cut hybrid jacket, front and sleeves made of windproof and waterproof Ventile®, back made of naturally elastic jersey, allowing both materials to show off their advantages and ensuring comfort despite the slim fit.
Other elements include closable pockets (two with decorative eyelet buttonholes and pewter buttons, a cell phone pocket with press stud and protective tape and an inside pocket).
Ventile® is permanently available in many beautiful colors, so the Randonneur can be offered for a long production time without compromise.
The Randonneur was presented for the first time at the Berlin Bike Show in 2018.
